We are not required to have an established privacy statement in the USA, but I believe that it is important to have an established privacy policy and have chosen to incorporate the “General Data Protection Regulation(GDPR)” in support of your rights to your information.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your (Gravatar) profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Our Philly Row collects data about your activities that does not personally or directly identify you when you visit this website. This information may include the content you view, the date and time that you view the content, and your general location information associated with your IP address. Data is gathered in the aggregate for informational purposes only.

Who we share your data with

This website does not share user data with any known third party with the following exceptions.

Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to gather user information for the purposes of understanding user activity to enable changes or enhancements to improve the user experience. Google Analytics has their own Terms of Service agreement which can be found here: Google Analytics Terms of Service

Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on

To provide website visitors the ability to prevent their data from being used by Google Analytics, you have the option to download the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js, analytics.js, dc.js).

If you want to opt-out, download and install the add-on for your web browser. The Google Analytics opt-out add-on is designed to be compatible with Chrome, Internet Explorer 11, Safari, Firefox and Opera. In order to function, the opt-out add-on must be able to load and execute properly on your browser. For Internet Explorer, 3rd-party cookies must be enabled. Learn more about about the opt-out and how to properly install the browser add-on here.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users who subscribe to notification emails for new posts, we store the email address and/or WordPress.com user name provided indefinitely, unless a user choses to unsubscribe to notification emails which can be done via links at the bottom of every notification email. Subscribers can manage their subscription via the links at the bottom of notification emails as well. Website administrators can see subscribers email addresses, but cannot delete or edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
